Bio

I am a professor of Intelligent networks at Lancaster University and also a research manager at Machine Learning Safety and Alignment Scholars, a non for profit organisation working in AI Safety and Alignment domain.  I have worked with the Alan Turing Institute as Scientific Advisor, and with UK regulatory sector as AI technical advisor.

How others can help me

  • Mentor researchers on evaluation design, compute budgeting, risk registers, and GDPR-compatible agentic architectures.
  • Share plug-and-play templates: logging schemas, DSAR/rights propagation, assurance-case snippets.
  • Translate policy to practice: EU AI Act and UK data protection controls into deployable checklists and DPIA/ROPA artifacts.
  • Critique benchmarks, red-teaming protocols, and reproducible eval pipelines; set up evaluation registries.
  • Advise funders on due diligence, dual-use considerations, and “safety-washing” risk.
  • Connect teams to standards bodies, public-sector pilots, and the MATS talent pipeline.
  • Contribute open-source code reviews and lightweight tooling for runtime accountability.

How I can help others

  • Pilot my runtime accountability toolkit in one public-sector workflow and one SME environment.
  • Provide funding or compute credits for the open-source toolkit and evaluation registry.
  • Collaborate on formal methods, secure systems, HCI for transparency, assurance case engineering, and red-teaming.
  • Share datasets of agentic traces and access to sandboxed testbeds.
  • Offer feedback on manuscripts and workshop proposals.
  • Make introductions to regulators, standards groups, and potential host organisations for visiting fellows.
  • Advise on building an applied governance lab and recruiting T-shaped engineers; support impact evaluation of governance interventions.
